In our days, almost every Sunday, Bach’s music is performed in the cathedral church of the small diocese of Monte Oliveto. The master’s comments, written in his personal Bible in 1733, still enlighten us. He writes in a gloss, “With devoted music, God is always present with His Grace.” In reference to the 25th chapter of the First Book of Chronicles on the selection and sending of musicians for the consecration of the Temple in Jerusalem he notes, “This chapter is the true foundation of all music that pleases God.”
